17th January 2009

We rendezvoused in the OGDC 'Gallery' at about 6.30 in the morning, with our exhibits and materials for the activity packed up and ready to go for the long 2 hours drive to the designated location.

We arrived at the scene approximately at 9.00 am. We took about half an hour to completely set up our booth which includes several mind busting puzzles, the shocking 'Finger Tingler' exhibit, the amazing 'Link-Unlink' exhibit, the 'Reaction Tester' exhibit and lastly the famous 'Mind Ball' exhibit.

The event was started off with speeches from the Principal of SM SUA, the Head of Department of Science and the Guest of Honour. At the end of the speeches, the 'gong' was sounded, marking the offical launching of the Science Fair.

Right after the official launching, the OGDC crew went up in front of the crowd to be introduced by Janet. We recieved rounds of applauses, a wonderful moment indeed.

After the "Ice-Breaking" session, Janet welcomed the students to visit our booth. At first, the response from the students was not as ample as we expected it to be as only a handful of the students ever heard about OGDC. However, we did catch most of the students towards the end.

There were several other booths available on that day as well. These include the display presented by several invited guests, such as the 'Jabatan Ukur' and 'Jabatan Kawalan Narkotik'. There were also numerous acitivities conducted by the teachers and students from SM SUA.

At 11.00 am, we invited the entire crowd to take their seats, sit back, relax and enjoy the show put on by Chang Yew En. The Liquid Nitrogen demonstration went on smoothly and loved by the students. Basically, he froze flowers and table tennis balls to temperature of -196 degree centigrade and let the students to have a "feel" of the frozen objects. The demonstration was put to an end by pouring the liquid Nitrogen across the floor of the hall, creating a beautiful and yet mysterious fog-effect.

After a short break, we prepared the space for conducting an activity, the "Tech Challenge: Water Rocket". The introduction on the Tech Challenge was presented by Janet and facilitated by the OGDC crew members.

The students were given half an hour to complete their water-rockets and prepare for the launching at exactly 3.30 pm.

Once their time was up, the students were led to the nearby water source to fill their water rockets with their fuel: water. Then they were brought to the parking zone to launch their water-rockets.

In the end, the group that won the first place is 'Hurricane' from Sekolah Menengah Masin, second place went to 'Sporting Team' from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Umar Al-Khatab and the third place went to 'SMM1' again from Sekolah Menengah Masin.

At about 4.30 pm, we packed-up our exhibits and went back to OGDC. We were so pleased that everything went out so well.
